Does PetRays provide specialty consultations?
Yes! The specialists at PetRays provide consultations in a number of areas, from radiology and cardiology to a wide array of internal medicine specialties, including dermatology, ophthalmology, neurology, anesthesiology and oncology. We also provide consultations for avian and exotic pets and large animals. Our specialists are the acknowledged leaders in their fields and remain on the cutting-edge of veterinary medicine.
I don’t have the right equipment and can’t afford it—how do I use your service?
In most cases, PetRays can work with whatever equipment you currently have in place, even plain film x-rays. If necessary, PetRays can place equipment in your clinic or advise you on your own purchase.
What are your consultation fees?

I have a modestly-sized practice. How can I afford PetRays’ services?
The cost of the consult is a pass-through expense paid by the patient. There should be no increased cost to the clinic or hospital. We have found that most pet owners find comfort in knowing their pet is getting the highest quality care possible. Our modest interpretation fees are a small part of the overall cost of the visit.
What equipment do I need to get started?
If you have high-speed internet, a DR or CR system or a scanner, set-up can be completed in as little as one hour. If you use non-digital imaging equipment, set-up usually can be completed the same day. Our technical team is available to handle everything.
Should I wait until my CR or DR system is installed before I use your service?
We can provide you the necessary equipment to start taking advantage of our services today. This is all at no additional expense. When the DR or CR is finally installed, our technical team will make the new connections to our system and remove our equipment.
I currently use a similar service. How do I switch to PetRays?
If you currently send your x-rays and imaging studies out for interpretation, then you are most likely ready to send to PetRays as well. Our technical team will complete a brief technical analysis and determine exactly what is needed. Chances are that you can begin using PetRays’ service in a few short hours.
I read my own x-rays. Why do I need PetRays?
Board-certified veterinary specialists spend three to four years in advance training to master their respective specialty. Even the most skilled veterinarians will have errors of omission and errors of misdiagnosis. Often, an exam thought to be normal is later determined to be abnormal. Many of the errors are significant and can affect patient outcome. PetRays specialists can help reduce misdiagnosis and improve the quality of care and follow-up for all patients in your practice.
How will PetRays benefit my practice?
By partnering with PetRays, you have access to a team board-certified veterinary specialists in fields ranging from radiology and cardiology to neurology and oncology. Partnering with PetRays is like having 24-hour access to a major veterinary referral center. With our STAT service, our specialists can interpret your x-rays and imaging studies and prepare final reports and recommendations in less than 30 minutes for radiology exams and in less than 1 hour for cardiology and small animal internal medicine cases.
Can we advertise that we partner with PetRays?
Of course! When you consult with the specialists at PetRays, you are improving both patient care and your practice’s image. Direct links to our website also are allowed.
What is the training and education of your specialists?
All of our specialists have completed a three year residency in their respective fields and are board-certified. Many of our specialists are actively involved in resident education and national and international speaking engagements. Others have been published in leading veterinary medical journals and have authored widely-used veterinary textbooks.
Are your specialists licensed to practice in my community?
At PetRays, we follow strict licensing requirements. Our specialists only read exams from states in which they hold a license and/or meet state veterinary practice requirements.
What is the expected turnaround time?
STAT exams are guaranteed in 30 minutes or less for radiology reports and 1 hour or less for cardiology and small animal internal medicine reports. For routine radiology and small animal internal medicine exams, turnaround time is three hours or less. There is an eight hour turnaround time for cardiology reports and a 24 hour turnaround time for internal medicine reports (dermatology, ophthalmology, neurology, anesthesiology and oncology) and large animal and avian/exotic consultations.
How does PetRays send reports back to my hospital?
Our proprietary reporting system is designed specifically for telemedicine. Once an exam request is made, it is immediately prioritized and routed to a PetRays specialist, who evaluates the images and data and completes the report. Our proprietary system automatically faxes and/or emails the final report back to the ordering veterinarian, clinic or hospital. Reports can also be viewed from any computer with internet access and can be easily uploaded into most practice management systems.
Can I access old reports?
Yes. We archive all reports for future reference, a value-added service that few other telemedicine consultation services provide.
What technical support services are available?
Our technical support team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year
What are the hours of coverage?
We are available 24/7/365.
